After 23 years in the trenches, there’s one thing I’m certain of: humans are not normal—and nobody knows this better than an outbound salesperson.
If you’re in sales, you already know: thick skin isn’t optional. Rejection is just Tuesday. But outbound DMs? Oh, they’re like a portal to the weirdest parts of the human psyche.
I’ve seen it all: ego, anger, flexing, and pure oddity. Why? Because humans are weird—but in normal life, you don’t talk to people at the scale you do in outbound. Sales just spikes the averages and highlights the inner alien.
I used hit back, ruminate and even re-evaluate my entire strategy…but he key? Accept it, laugh at it, and let it go. The moment you realize that it’s not about you, you’ll breathe easier.
One of my favorite hobbies is sharing the whackiest LinkedIn DMs I get. I screenshot them and send them to my clients on WhatsApp. I call these people “LinkedIn Aliens,” and honestly? They’re free entertainment and they don’t even know God bless em’.
Sales isn’t about avoiding the crazy—it’s about thriving in it. So, thick skin on, deep breaths, and keep going. It’s not you, its them!
